19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on court had led observers to question if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early break points in a close third set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
